Apple Wants the Court to Hit Pause on OpenAI

Apple isn't keeping this fight behind closed doors.

The company has asked a U.S. federal court for an emergency order that would place OpenAI under forensic supervision, arguing that former Apple employees took confidential engineering documents tied to unreleased hardware projects.

According to Apple's court filings, the material includes display designs, internal testing data, manufacturing decisions, and other research documents. Apple claims the information was copied over multiple occasions and later used outside the company. OpenAI has not been found liable, and the allegations will be tested in court.

Apple is also seeking expedited discovery, including access to devices, cloud storage, emails, and workplace communications it believes could contain relevant evidence.

For a company that built its reputation on secrecy, Apple has now put nearly everything on the record. The courtroom—not social media—will decide what actually happened.
